Newark Parks Foundation started this project in September 2015, and we’ve come a long way. Thank you to those that came out to February 11th, 2016 City Council Meeting.
What’s the status?
6/8/2016: We attended the first citywide parks master plan meeting. NPF brought out 60 people. Of those, a handful were dog park supporters. Although dog park representation wasn’t high relative to # of dog park users, their message was very strong and very effective as the comments were made from residents that have been living and paying taxes in Newark for 20+ years. However, we need to boost our numbers at the next meeting and continue to keep a positive tone. Meanwhile, we’re developing our datasheet to submit to the city, outlining estimated costs of construction and maintenance, estimated usage, potential revenue, and funding sources. Hope to see you at the next meeting, and tell your neighbors!
What can you do to help?
- Attend the Citywide Park Master Plan workshops. To get notified of these meetings, sign up for our email newsletter.
- Donate. Outreach requires printing, banners, business cards, advertising, etc. These efforts cost money. No donation is too small.
- Spread the Word. One critical component to getting a Newark Dog Park is to demonstrate that residents will use the dog park. Tell your neighbors to join our Facebook group.
