Newark Family Triathlon, hosted by the City of Newark, offered beginners an opportunity to "get their feet wet"! It was an exciting and well-coordinated event by the city. It was a beginner event, and lots of different age groups represented. Although it wasn't a competitive event, there were impressive kids that "killed it" on the swim leg. There were three legs (swim, bike, run), and participants could perform all three legs or create a 3-person team to do one or more of the legs. Bike route was off-road, making use of the many city park loops.
Newark Parks Foundation was happy to provide a bicycle pumping station for the event. Our bicycle pumping station was very helpful as there were about 30 bikes with "squishy" tires. Total turnout was 40 participants. We also rescued some untuned bikes. Big thanks to Peter & Steve for volunteering your bike mechanic skills and Cargill for its financial support.
